Stop misusing Govt benefits meant for cultural practitioners: Speaker

Imphal, September 22 2026: Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Thokchom Satyabrata has called for stopping the practice of availing benefits given by the State and Centre for cultural activities by persons who do not actually work in the cultural field using fake certificates.

He was speaking at the 17th Foundation Day function of Manipur Cultural Ashram held at the Multipurpose Hall of Naharol Sintha Kanglup, Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi.

The function, along with presentation of 'Nupamacha Pungyam Yeiba', was attended by Wangkhei AC MLA Th Arunkumar and Director of JN Dance Academy P Bilash among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Satyabrata said culture plays a very important role in giving identity to Manipur to the world.

Stating that culture has become a means of livelihood for many families, he said the contribution of those working in culture deserves respect from all.

However, in the State, some persons who are not in the cultural field are availing benefits given by the Government by using fabricated certificates and this should be stopped, he said.

Terming such persons as those who are selling culture in the name of loving culture, Satyabrata called upon everyone to sincerely work for the promotion of culture.
