A total of 229 fuel tankers and trucks that were stranded in Jiribam for several days due to the economic blockade on NH-37 road by various Kuki organisations including Kuki Women's Union, have finally left Jiribam for Imphal on Saturday morning with a large convoy of CRPF.
The fuel tankers were escorted by CRPF convoy in two shifts.
The first shift comprised 120 tankers and trucks which included 72 LPG bullet tankers, 17 petrol tankers, 25 diesel tankers, two ATF and four mixed tankers.
The second convoy escorted 109 tankers and trucks including 24 petrol tankers, 70 diesel tankers, three mixed tankers, two FCI trucks, two fertilizers, three trucks carrying Mimi and one each truck carrying salt and other goods.
Notably, tanker drivers refused to ply along the NH-37 road till providing adequate ROP and security convoy amidst the blockade called by the Kuki organisations.
However, tanker drivers decided to ply along NH-37 road after a large delegation of Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur and other Naga organisations came to Jiribam on Friday and appealed to the agitating tanker drivers to ply along the highway without any fear and assured of providing full security.
