Thoubal, June 20 2024:
In a heartwarming gesture, a newly built house was inaugurated and handed over to a family of three at Khangabok Part-II Mayai Leikai Lailam Thokpham in Thoubal district who were staying in a small shelter.
The Deputy Commissioner Thoubal in collaboration with the locals of the region extended help in the construction of the house of the three siblings who were unable to construct a house owing to immense challenges and financial constraints after their parents passed away.
The three siblings, namely Thokchom Laxmi Chanu (27 yrs), Thokchom Laxmipiyari Chanu (24 yrs) and Thokchom Laxmikanta Singh (20 yrs), were unable to construct a house and finding it difficult to make ends meet with no support and regular source of income.
It may be noted that the DC in collaboration with the locals took up the initiative to construct a house for them after the DC came to know of their pitiable condition when Kangleipak News Tengbang Lup (KNTL), a philanthropic organisation which helps the poor and needy uploaded a video on social media platform showcasing their difficult situation in January 5 this year.
KNTL in the video highlighted that the youngest son Thokchom Laxmikanta Singh had to quit his studies and took up menial jobs so as to support his sisters to sustain themselves.
Subsequently, Thoubal DC Ahanthem Subhash Singh IAS visited them and found that they were staying in a small tent in a distressing situation.
The DC while speaking at the occasion of the inauguration of the house said that he resolved to help in building a home in collaboration with the locals of the area in a bid to best possible help to them amid their tough times.
Highlighting the need of making concerted efforts to uplift the poor and needy in the society, the District Administration and the residents of the region can collaborate to resolve such issues without waiting for grants and benefits from the Government, the DC remarked.
Further he assured that the District Administration Thoubal will extend all forms of help for the well-being of the destitutes.
It is worth mentioning that Laxmi, Laxmipiyari and Laxmikanta have been working hard to sustain themselves by taking up any form of work that comes in the way.
After their mother passed away, their father Late Thokchom Laxman Singh passed away in 2021 due to an illness.
