Imphal, September 18, 2010: In the series of openings of designated camps of Kuki based underground groups, a designated camp of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) was opened yesterday at Muvanphai village in Chandel district.

The inauguration of the camp to be known as Namjarem camp was inaugurated by Thangkhosei Haokip, president Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) formally handing it over to the UKLF.

Around Rs one crore had been spent in the construction of the camp which has five barracks, one administrative block and a church, five quarters and an office of the commandant.

Government has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh only said Jacob Thadou, representing United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) in the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) of SoO as convener.

Recalling that the SoO was signed two years back on August 22, 2008, he said that JMG after verification has confirmed 140 cadres.

He also hinted at further verifications of the remaining cadres.

Reacting to Chief Minister, O Ibobi's statement in the state assembly regarding payment of Rs 5000 per month to the leaders of the outfits under the SoO, Jacob said the government has so far not paid any amount to any leader.

He said the statement of the Chief Minister misleads the people and sends a wrong signal to the leaders of other outfits under SoO.

He also pointed out that cadres of the outfit have not been given their stipends since April of this year.

He said political dialogue will start as per agreement brought about in the tripartite talks in New Delhi held on August 22, 2010 where both KNO and UPF had agreed to deposit all arms and ammunitions by September 20."We made clear our demand to create a Kuki Regiment in the Indian Army and the protection of Kuki people," Jacob said adding political dialogue begin this month.

However, the chief did not mention the deposition of arms and ammunitions which has to be effected within two days.

President of Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), Thangsoso Haokip inaugurated the designated camp of the UKLF by hoisting the flag of the outfit.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Kuki undergrounds are coming to a right direction to bring peace in the region by signing the SoO.

Not only bringing peace in the region, they had paved the way to bring unity among the Kukis residing in different parts of the country, he added.

He also expressed confidence that political dialogue will be initiated at the earliest so that people could finally lead peaceful lives.
