Drivers' Union distributes relief materials to stranded truckers

Senapati, May 18 2026:
In a humanitarian gesture, the Senapati District Drivers Welfare Association and the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur distributed relief materials to stranded truck drivers and helpers between Tadubi and Khuzama in Nagaland on Monday.
The relief distribution covered around 195 stranded trucks affected by the ongoing total shutdown called by Kuki Inpi Manipur and the economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC).
Relief materials including rice, pulses, potatoes, onions, mustard oil and drinking water were distributed to the stranded drivers and helpers who have been facing hardships due to the prolonged disruption of vehicular movement along the highway.
Speaking to media persons, vice-president of the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur, S Thohrii stated that a large number of trucks remained stranded along NH-2 owing to the shutdown and blockade, causing severe difficulties for transport workers.
He said the relief initiative was carried out under the aegis of the All Manipur Motor Workers and Transport Drivers Welfare Union, with the support of the Senapati District Drivers Welfare Union and the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, to provide essential assistance to the affected drivers and helpers during the crisis.
