The Kaleidoscopic Artist Association, a regional cultural organisation based at Sagolband Meino Leirak, Imphal dedicated to promoting Manipur's indigenous art forms, especially Manipuri folk and classical dance, celebrated its 16th Foundation Day on Monday at Aryan Theatre Hall, Wahengbam Leikai.
On the occasion, the association also unveiled its annual Manipuri classical dance-based production titled 'Leichal' before a gathering of artists, students and art lovers.
The inaugural function was graced by Wahengbam Hemabati Devi, retired Principal of Bishnupur Higher Secondary School, as chief guest.
Haobam Manikumar Singh, vice-president of Aryan Theatre, Imphal attended as president, while Manipur State Kala Akademi Awardee Ningthoujam Ajit Singh joined as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Hemabati Devi lauded the association for its 16 years of service in nurturing young talent.
She said it is encouraging to see many individuals and institutions coming forward to promote art and culture in the State.
Noting that many children are unable to pursue dance due to academic pressure, she appreciated institutions that provide training through weekend and evening classes.
She urged young learners to work hard from an early age to emerge as accomplished artists.
As part of the celebration, a Guru Vandana was presented by Moirangthem Moramba (Pung), Ghanaraj Pebam (Flute) and Moirangthem Piyainu (vocalist).
The highlight of the day was the staging of 'Leichal', the association's annual production rooted in Manipuri classical dance.
The production featured male artists including Hilary Thokchom, Helio Chungkham, John Konthoujam, Nongan Wahengbam, Sobhajit Okram, Roshan Leimapokpam, Laishram Luhenba, Sanasam Umar, Samjetsabam Thoithoi and Yumnam Bungosana.
