Imphal, March 17 2026:
On her way to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today, peace cyclist/social activist Malem Thongam was stopped by police personnel at Singjamei Bazar.
As such, the memorandum was handed over to the OC, Singjamei PS, to be submitted to the Chief Minister.
In the memorandum, Malem Thongam has requested the Chief Minister to inform the public Of the steps taken to ensure free and safe movement of Meiteis across all districts of Manipur within 15 days.
With the idea of promoting peace, unity and the "Idea of Manipur", the transgender social activist embarked on a 35 days peace awareness solo cycling expedition beginning on March 12 and set to conclude on April 15 intending to travel across all 16 districts of Manipur.
However, the memorandum complained that she was not allowed to proceed beyond Chandel by the authorities.
The memorandum was submitted seeking an explanation for the restriction of the peace expedition and the steps taken to ensure free movement of Meiteis across Manipur.
In the interest of restoring public safety, it also demanded the State Government to take up necessary measures within 15 days to facilitate the surrender of sophisticated weapons that are reportedly still in the possession of multiple organizations.
