Leadership Development Workshop for NE College Principals kicks off in Imphal

Imphal, February 16 2026: A Five-Day Orientation cum Workshop aimed at leadership development for College Principals in the North East Region began today at the DM College of Arts, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal.

Organised by the Department of Higher & Professional Education, 'National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Education, DM University, the workshop brought together 42 Principals from six North Eastern States.

The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Bhagirathi Panda, Director, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Shillong; Prof W Chandbabu, Vice-Chancellor, DM University; Prof Aarti Srivastava, Head, Department of Higher & Professional Education, NIEPA New Delhi; and program coordinators Dr Sangeeta Angom and Prof Manilei Serto.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Chandbabu expressed gratitude to NIEPA for organising such a significant workshop at the university.

He announced that due to logistical challenges, the remaining sessions from tomorrow onwards will be held at Hotel Imphal.

He said the workshop's core focus is leadership development, with a strong emphasis on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Prof Chandbabu highlighted the massive shift in India's educational focus brought about by the NEP over the past few years.

The policy addresses critical issues such as the level of engagement and collaboration Indian institutions will have with international institutions, he added.

He stressed that Indian institutions must innovate to compete globally, citing examples of foreign universities leveraging associated hospitals, factories, and industries as revenue streams and practical training hubs for students.

Prof Chandbabu also discussed the financial constraints faced by State universities, relying heavily on Government funding for salaries and infrastructure.

Despite these challenges, DM University boasts a strong faculty and student body, with over 430 faculty members and 16,421 students, making it one of Manipur's largest universities in terms of faculty-student ratio, he added.

The five-day workshop will deliberate on various aspects of institutional leadership development, including academic leadership courses, curriculum reforms, research, governance, and management systems.
