Skill development training programme commences

Thoubal, September 14 2026:
A 10-day skill development training programme on development of handicraft products/items from pineapple fibre commenced today at the training hall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal.
The training programme is being organised by KVK Thoubal under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (ICAR NINFET) Kolkata.
The inaugural programme was attended by Horticulture & Soil Conservation Officer DHO Thoubal Kh Malemnganba Meitei; District Handloom & Textiles, Thoubal former Project Manager L Dasumati Devi and KVK Thoubal Senior Scientist and Head in-Charge Dr Kh Premlata Devi as the presidium members.
Notably, twenty special trainees from Kakching and Thoubal districts are taking part in this training programme.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Kh Premlata Devi stated that the skill development training programme is being conducted with the aim to uplift the socio-economic status of the weavers by training them to produce handicraft products such as dolls, home decor items etc from pineapple fibre.
She informed that similar training has been conducted earlier and the weavers have benefitted and they have been able to produce handicraft from pineapple fibre.
She also extended gratitude to KVK Thoubal Home Scientist SMS RK Lembisana for taking a major role in organising this training programme for the welfare of the weaver trainees.
