CM Ibobi accuses NSCN-IM complicity in Thaisii ambush

Imphal, November 13 2011: Pointing an accusing finger to the NSCN (IM) for the ambush laid on Education Minister DD Thaisii yesterday, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that his government would be prevailing upon the centre to call off the ongoing peace talks with the Naga rebel group since the later continues to indulge in such violent activities of challenging the democratic institutions.

Responding to a question raised by mediapersons at the conclusion of a training on the flagship programmes of the UPA government organized under the aegis of Keishamthong Block Congress Committee at Pishum Oinam Leikai Lairembi ground today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh observed that yesterday's ambush on Education Minister DD Thaisii was part of the continuing subversive activities of NSCN (IM) to challenge the democratic institutions.

Consequently, the state government would be prevailing upon the centre to call off the ongoing peace talks with the Naga rebel group.

The Chief Minister pointed out that among other subversive acts carried out in the past, NSCN (IM) had killed Yangmaso Shaiza, laid ambush on MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing and exploded bombs at the office of ADCs.

The crimes being committed by NSCN (IM), which is currently currently engaged in peace talks with government of India is a clear indication of undermining the democratic institutions.

Earlier, while speaking at the training programme, the Chief Minister noted that NSCN (IM) is a UG group based only in Nagaland and the armed cadres of the outfit are supposed to stay in the designated camps and not loiter around even inside Nagaland as per the ground rules of the peace talk agreement.

For the same reason the government of Manipur had prevented the attempted entry of Thuingaleng Muivah to Manipur even though the Union Home Ministry had granted him the permission.

Yesterday's ambush on Education Minister DD Thaisii, while he was going on an inspection tour of the development works being taken up in the hills to ensure equal development in both the hills and the valley, should be considered against the interest of the people in Manipur, the Chief Minister further observed, and appealed to all organizations to refrain from carrying out such violent activities in the future.

"All of us are born in Manipur and we would die here.

We have to learn to live together in peace.

Imposition of bandh and blockade or setting on fire public properties over any demand should not be resorted.

Deprivation of education to students and necessary medicines for treatment of patients is something unheard of in other states.

The notion that I would contest in the election after eliminating the rival candidate should be given up.

Why can't there be open contest to seek the mandate of the people? Instead of all these, there should be mutual co-operation and support towards resolving every problem one after another'', the Chief Minister said.

Reacting to the charges leveled against Congress party by some central BJP leaders during their recent visit to the state, Chief Minister O Ibobi asserted that his SPF government never had nexus with any UG groups but BJP had with NSCN (IM) and thus, extended the ceasefire to Manipur, thereby leading to loss of 18 precious lives.

Let the public decide whether it is the BJP or the Congress which has nexus with UGs.

Congress is not in the habit of criticizing other political parties.

But to prevent from misleading the people, it would be in the fitness of things if the BJP could substantiate the charges of misusing fund from the exchequer, Ibobi added.

President of MPCC Gaikhangam, who presided over the function, observed that many timid people who think of contesting in the election after killing their rivals have also come up in the hills.

This is shameful.

If they want to contest in the election, let them come out openly.

Condemning the ambush laid on Education Minister DD Thaisii, Gaikhangam also described it as an act of cowardice that would not bring any solution.

Works Minister K Ranjit, IFC Minister N Biren, Chief Whip T Mangibabu and Minister L Jayantakumar were also among other party leaders who were present and spoke at the occasion.
