Laishram ningol Naorem ongbi Sanjita (34), who was rumoured death after experiencing a traumatic event amid the current crisis, is lying in RIMS ICU with ventilator support while the unborn child of nine months has been confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, RIMS authority said that Sanjita suffered massive brain haemorrhage (bleeding in the brain) and is currently in very critical condition with ventilator and inotropic support, a treatment that uses drugs to help the heart pump more blood and oxygen to the body.
Sanjita, originally from Uripok Huidrom Leikai, got married to Naorem Deepak of Singjamei Makha Kakwa Naorem Leikai on May 28 last year.
She is nine months pregnant with due date of October 22.According to her husband, on Wednesday, during a violent clash between protestors and security forces in Kakwa area, a tear gas shell fell just outside her room around 11 pm.
She experienced traumatic shock from the sudden blast of the tear gas shell and also had trouble breathing due to smoke inhalation.
About four hours later, she started experiencing dizziness and vomiting and consequently rushed to RIMS hospital around 5 pm.
At that time, she was fully conscious and she took BP tablet by herself.
After administering some medicines, she told her family members that she wanted to lie down.
Shortly after, she lost consciousness and was taken to the ICU.
Deepak further said that their first child, the foetus inside Sanjita's womb had lost pulses as per doctors.
However, they have not issued death certificate or official confirmation as of now.
Neither have they removed the foetus.
Doctors told him that they could not do anything but to wait for any sign of improvement from the current treatment being provided to her, Deepak said while questioning the treatment plan if they have admitted that they could do nothing.
Stating that he does not know what to do, he urged for public help.
Earlier on Thursday night, an official statement of RIMS media cell issued at 9.36 pm said that Sanjita was brought to RIMS obstetrics and gynaecology ward with severe pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure on pregnant women) on Thursday 5.13 am.
The statement also said that she was admitted in ICU and has pulse rate of 89/minute, BP of 108/74 mmHg.
Treating doctors suspect that she has severe brain damage and brain death committee of the hospital will reassess her condition on Friday 11 am.
Foetal heart sound (pulse) is found to be absent and is confirmed by untrasound scan, the statement added.
Another press statement issued by RIMS media cell on Friday 4.30 pm said that an expert medical team at RIMS Hospital has been constituted to assess the condition of Sanjita Devi.
She was evaluated by the team at 11:00 am on Friday.
After thorough consultations with her family members, a CT scan of the brain was performed, which revealed a massive intracranial haemorrhage.
It further informed that Sanjita is currently in a very critical state.
According to the latest medical update, Sanjita's vital signs include a pulse rate of 110 beats per minute, blood pressure at 140/88 mmHg, and an oxygen saturation (SPO2) level of 98 per cent.
She is currently on a ventilator with inotropic support, indicating that her condition requires intensive monitoring and intervention.
The statement further stated that it is utilising all available facilities and making every possible effort to provide the best care for her during this critical time.
