RDA RIMS condemns brutal murder of resident doctor, demands immediate action

The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, strongly condemned the horrifying and brutal murder of a 31-year-old second-year Postgraduate Trainee (PGT) in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College West Bengal.
According to a release issued by RDA RIMS, the initial autopsy report revealed that she was assaulted and murdered in a manner that is nothing short of inhumane.
This heinous act has shaken the medical community and the public alike.
Demanding an investigation into the incident with the utmost urgency and importance, the RDA RIMS called for a fast-track investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s) responsible for this atrocity.
"The individual(s) responsible must face the full extent of the law, and justice must be served in such a way that no one ever dares to commit such an act against any of our sisters and daughters again", it added.
The RDA RIMS urged all local news channels and print media to give this incident the prime coverage it deserves, ensuring that every citizen of Manipur and India becomes aware of the gravity of this situation and stands in solidarity with the victim.
"This is not just an issue for the medical fraternity but for society at large.
The RIMS RDA stands with RG Kar Medical College in their demands for justice", it added.
The RDA RIMS also listed a number of demands-CBI investigation to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation; Fast-track investigation and punishment; updates about investigation progress on a regular basis; establishment of a hospitalbased helpline for women doctors to provide immediate assistance and support; and strengthening hospital security to ensure safety of all staff, especially women.
"We wish to make it clear that if our demands are not met promptly, we are prepared to escalate our protest, including shutting down all hospital services.
Our colleagues' safety and the medical profession's integrity cannot be compromised", asserted RDA RIMS.
