Honey Bee Festival to begin on Dec 15 in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, December 11 2025:
The Development for Rural People (DRP), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, has invited beekeepers, farmers, entrepreneurs, students and the general public to participate in the "2-Day Hill District Level Honey Bee Festival cum Honey Product Expose" .
The event sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, will be held on December 15 and 16 at the DRDA Hall, Ukhrul, from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm .
According to a release issued by the DRP, this year's festival will be observed under the theme "Bee the Change, Save the Bees," focusing on the promotion of sustainable apiculture and the critical role of honey bees in rural development and ecological balance.
The inaugural session on December 15 will be graced by Thaituilung Pamei, Commissioner (Hort & Soil Conservation), while the valedictory function on December 16 will feature Asish Das, Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul as chief guest.
The two-day event will feature a range of activities, including live beehive competitions such as queenspotting, harvesting, spot selling, and auction, along with technical sessions by experts on beekeeping, honeybee morphology, apiary health, financial inclusion, start-up guidance, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
A buyer-seller meet, MoU signing, honey product expose, stalls, special appearances, and cultural interactions will further enrich the festival experience, stated the DRP.
The organisers have encouraged maximum participation to support beekeeping, strengthen rural livelihoods, and celebrate the importance of bees in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
