KVK Imphal West holds training on 'Kharif Crop Protection and Rice Seed Production'

Imphal, July 10 2026:
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal West, on Friday organised a day-long multi-disciplinary training programme on "Insect Pest and Disease Management in Kharif Crops and Seed Production in Kharif Rice" at its campus in Sairamkhul.
The programme aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge on protecting kharif crops and promoting quality rice seed production to enhance productivity and farm income ahead of the sowing season.
In the first technical session, Dr Kangabam Suraj Singh, Scientist (Plant Protection), KVK Imphal West, spoke on major insect pests and diseases affecting rice, maize, cucurbits and okra.
He stressed timely management and demonstrated eco-friendly biocontrol practices for sustainable crop protection.
Practical demonstrations included seed treatment with biocontrol agents, soil treatment to suppress soil-borne pathogens, and proper foliar application techniques.
The second session by Salam Gunamani Singh focused on kharif rice seed production.
He highlighted its role in income generation, ensuring quality seed availability, and minimizing pest and disease incidence through proper seed production and rotation.
Progressive farmers who attended described the training as timely and relevant, expressing hope that adopting biocontrol and improved seed techniques would protect nurseries, increase yields, and strengthen sustainable farming.
