Jiribam launches 7-day training programme on scientific beekeeping

With an aim of promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities among local farmers, youth and self-help groups, the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Jiribam, in collaboration with the Manipur Beekeeping and Honey Mission (MBHM) and sponsored by the National Bee Board (NBB), launched a 7-day training programme on Scientific Beekeeping at the Training Hall of Cashewnut Development Officer (H&SC), Jiribam on Tuesday.
The inaugural session was graced by Deputy Commissioner Jiribam, Krishna Kumar as chief guest; Cashewnut Development Officer Yambem Pradeep Singh as president; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam, Th Manoranjan Singh as guest of honour; and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Jiribam Mk Naeem Ahamed Shah as the special guest.
In his address, DC Krishna Kumar highlighted the vast potential of beekeeping as an economically viable activity that contributes to rural income generation and ecological balance.
He encouraged participants to adopt scientific practices to enhance honey production and support biodiversity.
The training programme features combined classroom sessions with intensive practical demonstrations, covering topics such as honeybee species and behaviour, apiary site selection, seasonal colony management, and market prospects.
A total of 30 participants from different villages and localities of Jiribam attended the training, gaining hands-on experience in hive handling, colony division, feeding, and honey extraction.
