Eight tax-evading trucks impounded

Altogether eight trucks which shipped in cement from Silchar without paying tax have been seized by an enforcement team of Taxation led by Assistant Commissioner PremjitKhuman.
Since the GST regime came into force from July last year, transportation of goods from one State to another should be done only after paying taxes and procuring necessary documents.
However, there are reports of transportation of goods to the State without paying taxes and without procuring the necessary documents.
As such, the enforcement team has been carrying out special drives.
The enforcement team which was set up recently seized eight trucks loaded with cement at Keithelmanbi today for not paying taxes.
Moreover, they did not possess any documents or invoices, informed a source.
Taxation Department will take up necessary action so that owners of the eight trucks get befitting penalty.
GST levied on cement is said to be 28 per cent.
The department has already launched a special drive against business houses dealing in cement and tyres which have not been paying GST.
