Govt urged to shut illegal stone crushers

Stone crushers which were banned by the Government are still operating in areas under Moidangpok and New Keithelmanbi, alleged the Moidangpok, Moidangpok Khunnou, New Keithelmanbi Apunba Chaokhat Thourang Lup.
The operation of the stone crushers has turned Sagollok River into a roadway for heavy vehicles, and a bridge has been constructed over the river illegally, said the organisation's president, Th Amumacha.
Amumacha said the members of the organisations inspected stone crusher sites under Ushingsapokpi Teramakhong today, and found several stone crushers operating despite being banned by the Government.
The organisation has repeatedly informed relevant departments, but so far no steps have been taken up to close the stone crushers, he said.
The continued operation of the stone crushers, allegedly flouting legal norms, has polluted the river, environment and become a health hazard for locals, he said.
Stating that the relevant department of the Government should shut the stone crushers immediately, he said that the locals may be forced to dismantle and remove the bridge over Sagollok River if it's not removed by the authorities concerned at the earliest.
