KEMKAL, KDBA decries Govt's failure to safeguard people, tackle threat to National security

Bpr/Thb, September 08 2024: In view of the recent surge in Kuki aggression, Keke Moirang Kendra Apunba Lup and the Kakching District Bar Association (KDBA) have expressed dissatisfaction and shock at the Central and State Government's inability to protect people's lives and handle threats and challenges to national security.

Claiming that the September 6 rocket attack launched by suspected Kuki militants at the residence of former Chief Minister M Koireng was aimed at INA Memorial Martyr's Complex, KEMKAL has expressed shock at the State and Central Government's inaction in the face of such threats to national security.

The statement was made by Konjengbam Mohendro, advisor cum spokesperson, KEMKAL during a press conference held at Moirang Konung today.

The meeting was attended by Ph Nipamacha, president, KEMKAL; Ph Singhajit, vice-president; L Boy, general secretary in-charge and other members of KEMKAL.

Speaking to the media, Konjengbam Mohendro cautioned that the unrest in the State may be heightened if the State and Central Government continue to remain apathetic to the people's plight in the face of renewed Kuki aggression.

He also mentioned the recent attacks on September 1 and 6 at Koutruk and Moirang respectively which took innocent people's lives and left many injured.

However, instead of bringing peace after 16 months of conflict, the State Government's inaction has instead filled the people with fear and anxiety, he said.

Aggrieved with the authority's lack of meaningful response, he urged them to protect the people and put a stop to their "partisan approach" in the conflict.

He further alleged that the September 6 rocket which exploded at the residence of former Chief Minister M Koireng was originally aimed at the INA Memorial Martyr's Complex, but veered off its target by about 100 metres.

He cautioned that the future of the State will be very grim if such threats to national security are not properly dealt with.

Thus he urged the State and Central Government to unite and restore peace in Manipur.

Meanwhile, the Kakching District Bar Association (KDBA) has expressed discontent with the State Government's failure to safeguard the lives of the people and restore peace and normalcy.

Kakching District Bar Association organised a press conference at Legal Aid Clinic Kakching, Library and Information Centre Kakching today in this connection.

Addressing the mediapersons, Sansweta Kshetrimayum, treasurer, KDBA compared the State Government to a "dummy Government" while highlighting its powerlessness.

Sansweta said that the use of high tech drone and missiles by suspected Kuki militants is an attack on India itself.

Additionally, the KDBA treasurer maintained that the ruling and opposition MLAs and Ministers, barring the ten Kuki MLAs, cannot even use the powers accorded to them by the Indian Constitution.

The State Government, Home Department, Security Advisor and Unified Command Chairman Kuldeep Singh, DGP and Manipur Chief Secretary have failed to discharge their sworn duties, Sansweta added.

Thus, KDBA has urged the 50 State legislators to take a collective decision to save Manipur or risk an uprising like in Bangladesh.

The press briefing was attended by N Madhu, president, KDBA; B Prem Sharma, general secretary, KDBA and other members.

Prior to the briefing, the gathering observed a minute of silence to pay their respects to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives during the course of the conflict.
