Imphal, July 08 2026:
Green Foundation today launched its "Kharif Campaign 2026" with an aim to encourage youth in Manipur to take up agriculture and allied activities as a viable livelihood option.
The inaugural programme was held at the Green Foundation Farm Convention Centre, Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai.
Speaking on the occasion, Green Foundation CEO Uritkhinbam Heemat said the foundation has started a new project to motivate the youth of the State towards farming.
As part of the campaign, Green Foundation will set up model farms in different parts of the State from this year.
Heemat said the model farms will be provided with scientific and technical inputs, infrastructure, bio-fertilizers, urea and other essentials by the Foundation.
The Foundation will also support marketing of products from these farms.
Apart from crop cultivation, the model farms will provide opportunities for youth to engage in livestock rearing, piggery, fishery and other allied activities.
He stressed that the purpose of the model farms is to demonstrate that agriculture can be profitable and can serve as a sustainable career path for young people.
He expressed concern that most people currently engaged in farming in the State are elderly, and if youth continue to stay away, agriculture in the State will face serious challenges in the coming years.
The programme was attended by former Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal former Dean Prof N Iboton, Green Foundation chairman Kh Rajendra, Prof RK Tombisana (retired) of CAU Imphal, phytopathologist Dr M Thoithoi and farmers from different parts of the State.
