15 non-locals without ID proof pulled up

As part of its ongoing drive to identify non-locals staying and working in different parts of the State without proper identification documents, volunteers of Joint Action Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Women's Wing pulled up 15 non-locals including a juvenile who were found without valid ID proofs working in construction of a house belonging to a retd MCS officer at Sekmaijin today.
The non-locals are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but presently staying in rented houses at Khoyathong and different parts of the city.
They were reportedly brought to the house by a contractor engaged in hiring workers namely Thounaojam Priyananda (35) s/o Th Chura of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak.
The owner of the house has been identified as Thongam Heramani of Sekmaijin.

Addressing a press meet in this regard at the office of JCILPS at Nongmeibung here this evening, N Chingkheinganbi, programme co-ordinator of JCILPS Women's Wing informed that the non-locals were pulled up during a drive conducted at Mayai Lambi area as a measure to curb the ever increasing influx of outsiders into the State without proper ID proofs.
She said that to the volunteers' surprise, all the 15 non-local construction workers were found possessing identity cards issued by Rising Knowledge Club, Khoyathong after charging Rs 200 from each of them.
Stating that the revelation of the invalid cards possessed by the non-locals came at a time when collective demand is being made for implementation of ILP system in the State, she asked the members of Rising Knowledge Club to come to the office of JCILPS at the earliest for talk.
She also informed that arrangements would be made for the non-locals to return to their native places.
Meanwhile, supporting the ongoing demand for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in the State, a sit-in-protest was staged jointly by Model Club, Chingamakha; Salai Apunba Nupi Lup and Apunba Meira Paibi Chingamakha at Chingamakha Community Hall here today.
During the protest, the participants resolved to restrict entry of non-locals without proper identification documents in Chingamakha area.
Several placards which read 'Implement ILP system in the State', 'Save indigenous people', 'Regulate entry of non-locals into the State' etc were used during the protest demonstration.
