Handloom expo in Bangladesh on cards: Kh Ibomcha

Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd and Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha has said that a Handloom expo will be held in Bangladesh to promote products of the State.
He said this during a meeting with members of Manipuri Youth Cultural Organisation (MYCO) from Bangladesh at MHHDCL office, Keishampat.
Kh Ibomcha said around 50,000 Meeteis live in 15 villages in Bangladesh and they also produpe handloom items like Wangkhei phee, Rani phee.
However, due to lack of proper training in dyeing and finishing, they face problems, he added.
He said under the Ministry of Textiles, an expo will be held in Bangladesh along with training for weavers there on dyeing and finishing.
MYCO secretary Rajib Konthoujam and advisor Haorongbam Ashim said Meeteis in Bangladesh produce good handloom products which are presented as gifts to important Ministers there.
Handlooms made in Bangladesh cannot match Manipur's quality.
As Manipur products are not available there, demand is high.
If weavers from Manipur come to Bangladesh to sell products, people will be happy, they said.
