Imphal, July 06 2026:
Former Up-Adhyaksha of Imphal East, Ksh Tama has urged the State Government to urgently intervene as lack of water in paddy fields has delayed transplantation across several areas even as July sets in.
Leading an inspection today in Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency, she visited Yaral Loukol, Gurupat, Makhapat, Gangapat, Wakha, Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Leingam Loukol, Leithong, Lairembi Loukol, Kalika Mamang Loukol and Leitambi Loukol among others.
Speaking during the visit, Tama said deficient rainfall this year has left most paddy fields dry, causing hardship for farmers.
While the Government's distribution of fertilizer and seeds is welcome, transplantation cannot proceed without water in the fields, she said.
She appealed for immediate measures to ensure irrigation.
She noted that many fields in Kshetrigao lie near the Kongba and Iril rivers and urged authorities to implement concrete plans to lift water from the rivers.
Citing the ongoing crisis since May 3, 2023, she warned that failure to transplant now will lead to food shortage.
Ksh Tama also called for deployment of security forces to protect farmlands in the foothills so farmers can work safely.
