Ukhrul, June 06 2026:
Need-based financial assistance provided by the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Ukhrul, under the 15 th Finance Commission and the 4th State Finance Commission has brought tangible development to villages across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
The developmental initiatives, implemented through Village Development Committees (VDCs), have facilitated the smooth execution of rural infrastructure projects while ensuring greater community participation and accountability.
The programme marks the first time that such funds have been channelled directly through VDCs under the supervision of ADC Ukhrul.
Sources said the ambitious development programme, launched in February 2026, has covered more than 120 villages across the two districts.
Funds were deposited directly into the accounts of the respective Village Development Committees for timely implementation of approved projects.
The projects include the construction of drinking water tanks, sanitary toilets, community halls, crematorium sheds, village courts, retaining walls and other essential infrastructure.
Financial assistance ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh was provided to each village depending on the nature and scale of the project.
According to reports, at least ten villages have successfully completed their projects within five months with active community participation and local contributions.
Commenting on the initiative, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president Sword Vashum described the ADC's system of evenly allocating developmental works among villages as commendable.
Vashum further stated that the execution of projects under the 15th Finance Commission and the 4th State Finance Commission through ADC Ukhrul has ensured fair and balanced allocation of developmental works across villages in both districts.
He further appealed to the State Government to continue the same model of financial assistance while extending the fresh allocation of 18th Finance Commission to all villages of both Ukhrul and Kamjong district, and ensure that no such assistance to private or individuals.
