Trust announces awards to mark Irabot's 130th birth anniversary

Imphal, September 05 2026: The Irabot Memorial Charitable Trust, Pishum Oinam Leikai, will present the Students' Ideal Award and Irabot Memorial Award as part of the 130th birth anniversary celebration of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.

Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club today, advisory board member of the Trust Namoijam Tomba said many people are still unaware that the statue at Pishum Oinam Leikai marks Irabot's childhood homestead, and the Trust has been organising programmes to popularise the historic site.

As part of the celebration, an essay competition on the life of Irabot will be held on September 12 at Manipur College in two categories - Class VII to IX and Class X to XII .

The prize distribution will be held on September 30.On the same day, the Irabot Memorial Awards will be conferred on social educationist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and renowned folk singer Dr Hamom Naba.

He further said the Trust will also observe Irabot's death anniversary on September 26, which will be attended by Chief Minister Y Khemchand.
