1.56 lakh kg of indigenous fish showcased at Fair

A total of 1.56 lakh kilograms of indigenous fish species were showcased and sold at the 45th Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop competition organised by the Fisheries Department in connection with Ningol Chakkouba festival.
The department has been organising fish fair cum fish crop competition every year on the eve of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Contrary to tentative target set for exhibition and sale of 1.5 lakh kg, fish farmers produced 1.56 lakh kilogram of different species in the competition held on November 2, making the event a success.
Meanwhile, the department declared results of the competition held at Hapta Kangjeibung with the top prize in individual category bagged by Salam Lokendro Singh of Laphupat Tera sponsored by District Fishery Officer (DFO), Imphal West.
The second prize was secured by Ningthoujam Basanta of Khordak sponsored by DFO Bishnupur while Laimujam Dinamani of Tentha, sponsored by DFO Thoubal, was adjudged the third prize winner.
The top three winners respectively produced 43,765kg, 17,462 and 17,366 kg fish of different varieties.
Salam Lokendro also bagged the first prize for highest production of indigenous fish at 9,735kg.A total of 20 farmers were also named for consolation prizes, a notification of the department, issued by director H Balkrisna Singh, said.
In the district-wise fish production for both the valley and hills, DFO Imphal West K Gunapati Devi emerged as the highest producer for the valley with 47,545 kg, while DFO Chandel Sapam Jiten Singh became the highest producer for hills with 2,770 kg .
