Imphal, January 04 2025:
The Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) has strongly condemned the recent attack on the offices of the SP and DC in Kangpokpi district, carried out by armed Kuki militants.
The attack, which resulted in injuries to SP Manoj Prabhakar, has been described as a direct affront to the rule of law and an escalation of violence by Kuki militant groups pursuing a separatist agenda.
In a statement released on Saturday, the society termed the assault as part of an ongoing and deliberate effort by Kuki militant groups to destabilise Manipur and further their publicly declared ambition of carving out a sovereign "Kukiland" by breaking up Manipur and India.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the society pointed out that this attack is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern of aggression.
The society recalled the arson attack on the DC office in Churachandpur last year and the assault on a police station in Moreh by Kuki militants, allegedly backed by Myanmar-based insurgent groups.
It also expressed alarm over the open presence of heavily armed militants, reportedly from the Kuki National Front (KNF), during the Kangpokpi attack.
The society emphasised that these actions represent a blatant violation of the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreements.
The Meitei Heritage Society accused the militants of creating chaos and lawlessness with impunity, citing the viral video from May 3, 2023, which allegedly showed armed Kuki militants burning Meetei villages in Torbung.
The society stated that these actions triggered the violence that has plagued the state for over 19 months and criticised past failures to take decisive action, which it claims have emboldened the insurgents.
The society urged both the Central and state governments to respond swiftly and decisively to dismantle militant networks and restore order.
It called for immediate military operations against Kuki militant bases, a suspension of SOO agreements with the separatist groups, and enhanced security measures to protect government institutions and law enforcement agencies.
Expressing concern over the geopolitical implications, the Meitei Heritage Society warned that continued inaction risks undermining the integrity of Manipur and India.
Reaffirming its commitment to defending the state and nation, the society demanded that decisive steps be taken to curb the secessionist violence and ensure lasting peace in the region.
