JAC demands compensation, action against contractors & engineers

Imphal, July 03 2024:
After a truck driver was killed when a newly constructed bailey bridge snapped at Imphal West recently, locals have urged the Government for compensation and arrest of contractors and engineers involved.
The bailey bridge which connected Irong Khunou and Mutum Phibou collapsed on June 30 plunging a truck and killing a driver identified as Md Borjao (45) s/o Ibocha of Mayang Imphal Yangbi.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the incident and the death of the driver has now appealed to the Government to give ex-gratia and provide assistance to the family of the deceased, and take up action against contractors and engineers involved in construction of the bailey bridge.
If the demands are not met within 3 days, the JAC will launch stringent agitation and resort to imposing bandh, said the JAC .
