Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) along with departments of law, political science and Southeast Asian Studies, and College Development Council of Manipur University organised an academic discourse on the topic "The Manipur Crisis" at the Court Hall of the University on Thursday.
Speaking as the chief guest, MU VC Prof N Lokendra expressed firm belief that that various CSOs, clubs, Meira Paibi groups and student organisations would play crucial role in the socio-political system and help expedite the cunent process or initiatives taken up to resolve the prevailing crisis and also in socio-economic development of the state.
He continued that the demographic dividend of India is not compatible with the state, thereby resulting in lots of inconveniences.
This is bound to impact the academic and intellectual growth of the state, he remarked.
In his speech as the functional president, COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba expressed that the conflict in the state has taken on different tones, making it difficult for a layman to understand the same.
"With the origin and cause of the violence becoming increasingly obscure, the discourse was organised to urge intellectuals and scholars to uncover the various tones," he informed.
Athouba also exuded hope for the discourse to help provide a detailed recommendation, while declaring that the papers presented during the technical sessions would be compiled and published as an article.
The discourse was also attended by Department of Southeast Asian Studies head Dr Chinglen Maisnam and Department of Law head Dr Yumnam Premananda as guests of honour.
The discourse was conducted in three technical sessions.
Five resource persons spoke on the topic 'India's Role in Geo-Politics and Strategic Interests' in the first session, while other four resource persons dealt with the topic 'Legal and Human Rights Considerations' and five on 'Conflict Dynamics and Strategic Approaches' in the second and third sessions respectively.
