Swachhata drives held ahead of Gandhi Jayanti

Imphal, October 01 2026: The Department of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur conducted cleanliness drives and mass tree plantation as part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 along riverbanks of Nambul in Imphal West.

On Thursday, braving drizzle, a drive was held at Elangbam Leikai, Keishamthong led by Development Officer Alex Thounaojam with officials and locals.

Earlier on September 30, a similar programme with tree plantation and distribution of dustbins was organised at Iroisemba Irong.

About 640 households were given bins for segregation of dry and wet waste.

The department has been taking up clean river campaign focusing on polluted stretches of Nambul from Iroisemba to Heirangoithong.

Meanwhile, ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, 189 Bn CRPF conducted a cleanliness drive at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Health and Wellness Centre), Langol Ningthou Leikai, under the theme "Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath" as part of Swachhata Hi Seva.

Commandant Prashant Kumar Sahu led the drive and planted saplings.

On National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, 20 personnel of the battalion donated blood at RIMS .
