Imphal, June 01 2024:
PHED minister L Susindro alias Yaima has informed that the flooded Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar will be restored to its normal state within two days.
Most neighbourhoods in Imphal including Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar areas were left inundated after Nambul River and Imphal River overflowed its banks and breached in some areas, following heavy rains in the past few days.
Speaking to newspersons while trying to stop the overflowing Naga River in Khoyathong area on Friday, Susindro informed that under the supervision of the chief minister, around eight drains in Paona Bazar were cleaned, following which no flooded area was left in Paona Bazar.
For Thangal Bazar, one important sluice gate at Shamu Makhong was found not working, which led to flooding in the areas.
As such, efforts are being made to drain the inundated water to Nambul River.
He then urged owners of the houses and hotels constructed along the river banks not to dump garbage into the river carelessly.
Susindro further informed that for areas whether the Water Supply Department cannot supply water, the water can be collected from Porompat Water Supply and Chingkhti Ching Bazar.
Efforts are underway to restore normal movement between Imphal East and West districts to facilitate supply of water.
Apart from this, steps are being taken up to supply water in other areas.
Safe, potable water are available till October-November, he assured.
