MMKAL observes Orphan Welfare Campaign at Yaibilen Children Home

On the occasion of Irabot Day, Meitei Meetei Kanba Apunba Lup (MMKAL) observed an Orphan Welfare Campaign today at Yaibilen Children Home, Keibi Sanapat, Imphal East.
Nambam Bhasko Meitei, convenor of the Orphan Welfare Campaign attended as chief guest, Yangoijam Peeba Meitei, founder of Yaibilen Children Home as guest of honour and MMKAL president Loveson Waikhom Mangang presided over the programme.
The programme began with presentation of traditional lengyan to dignitaries and offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.
Publicity secretary Okram Thomas Meitei delivered the welcome address.
Organisational secretary Chingangbam Johnson Meitei delivered the keynote address on "Care for Every Child: Carrying Forward the ideals of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot".
He said welfare of orphaned and vulnerable children is a shared responsibility and recalled Hijam Irabot's struggle for justice, equality and unity of hill and valley peoples.
Nambam Bhasko Meitei said children are not alone and caring for orphaned children cannot be a one-day effort but must be a continuing commitment.
Yangoijam Peeba Meitei thanked MMKAL for supporting the children and hoped more individuals and organisations will come forward to support children's homes across the State.
Loveson Waikhom Mangang said Irabot Day is observed through social service, candle lighting and floral tributes and MMKAL chose to spend the day with children of Yaibilen Home in the true spirit of Irabot.
He assured support for requirements of children in future.
As part of the campaign, MMKAL distributed essential food items and shoes to 11 children of the Home and shared lunch with them.
