Lecture programme on enforced disappearance held

The Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) organised a lecture programme today at the National Research Centre, Canchipur, as part of the observance of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.
The programme was presided over by MIYC adviser MC Meitei, while a special lecture was delivered by Head of the Department of Law, Manipur University.

An interaction programme was also held later.
Addressing the function, MIYC president MK Saroj Khan said August 30 has been observed as the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances since 2011, following a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
He said this year's theme is "Victim First, Action Now".
Saying that 22 persons were subjected to enforced disappearance in Manipur during the 1980s.he added that records also show that 34 individuals have been subjected to enforced disappearance in the State since May 3, 2023.Questioning what the Centre and State Governments have done to deliver justice to victims of enforced disappearance, he claimed that delays in registering FIRs and conducting investigations into the cases of those who went missing amid the crisis are evident.
