Against the backdrop of the proposed rally of the Kuki-Zo community scheduled for August 31, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has declared that it will not permit any such processions or agitations within its jurisdiction.
In a statement issued Friday, the apex Tangkhul students' body stated that it had learnt about a proposed rally of the Kuki-Zo community that is planned for August 31, 2024 .
It declared that "no form of rally, dharna or any agitation will be permitted within the jurisdiction of TKS", which mainly covers both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, while adding that the same is in the interest of maintaining peace and neutrality.
TKS further advised the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO-Ukhrul), (KSO-Kamjong) and the Kuki Women Union (KWU-Ukhrul), (KWU-Kamjong), under the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) to immediately withdraw their proposed rally within its jurisdiction.
TKS cautioned that it will not be held responsible for any untoward incidents resulting from non compliance.
Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) also issued a stern warning against holding any rally or dharna within its jurisdiction.
The decision was announced following the Kuki Students' Organisation, Sadar Hills' plan to organise a rally on August 31 from Keithelmanbi Military Colony (KMC) to Kangpokpi town.
In a press statement, SDSA expressed disappointment over the announcement of the rally by certain student organisations and their parent body, Kuki Inpi Manipur, despite SDSA's recent inter-sports meet held under the motto "Run for Peace in Manipur".
While affirming that it has and shall maintain neutrality in the on-going crisis in Manipur, SDSA said it considers the planned rally unfortunate and warned that any organisation attempting to operate within the SDSA's jurisdiction will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
It further cautioned that any untoward incident resulting from the proposed agitation would be at the organisers' own risk and consequences.
The students' body also reassured the Naga general public to remain calm and cooperate with the SDSA, as it stands firm in its decision to uphold and safeguard the interests of all people, ensuring that goodwill prevails.
It is worth mentioning that the Kuki Students' Organisation-Sadar Hills, along with its federating student bodies, including the Thadou Students' Association, Sadar Hills (TSA-SH), Gangte Students' Organisation, Sadar Hills (GSO-SH), and Zillai (Vaiphei Students Association, Kanggui Block), have unanimously resolved to support the nationwide rally.
