Both Dr Ranjan and L Susindro gave their respective assurances during the Question and Answer Session on the 4th day of the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram, health minister Dr Ranjan said that the academic session of the first ever Medical college in the hill areas of Manipur at Churachandpur town will commence once the National Medical Commission (NMC) issues the Letter of Permission (LOP).

He also said that application for LOP is at the processing stage and academic session will commence once the approval for the same is given.

He further informed that the House that construction works for requisite infrastructures of the college are almost complete and installations of equipment in progress while recruitment of professors may be completed by August this year.

Replying to another question from Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute, Dr Ranjan said that Rs 15 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of Multi-Drug Resistant TB Centre at Churachandpur District Hospital and works for the same may be completed within a short period.

Meanwhile, PHE minister L Susindro, while responding to a question by MLA Ram Muivah, informed the House that steps had been taken to ease water scarcity problem in Ukhrul town.

He said that Ukhrul PHE division has engaged water tankers to supply water to the public as well as gov ernment institutions, hospitals and schools to ease the scarcity of water during lean season in the town.

As long-term measures, installation of hand pumps at 38 locations and pumping arrangement have been included in the ongoing water supply project at Ukhrul district headquarters under New Development Bank (NDB) funding.

Replying to another question raised by MLA Kh Joykisan Singh, minister Susindro said that the Phase II of Imphal Sewerage Project will benefit people as the work of the phase will be completed within two years.

Regretting inconveniences faced by the people, he said that the tender process of five packages under Phase-II of the project has been started and the work will be completed within the stipulated time.

He further informed that Phase I of sewer project started in the year 2004 and a total of Rs 34,325 lakh has been utilised while Rs 778.55 lakh remains as liability.

The project is a good one for Imphal city and it will provide benefit to the people.

Unlike Phase I, Phase II of the project would not cause much inconvenience to the people, he assured.

To another question raised by Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar Singh, Water Resources minister Awangbow Newmai assured the House that construction works on the left and right canals of Dolaithabi Project will be completed by December this year and problems pertaining to the works will be solved shortly.

He said that compensation to 203 land owners affected by the project had been given and compensation for remaining 39 land owners had also been deposited to DC Imphal East.

Replying to another question raised by LM Khaute, the minister said that the department is planning to provide tapping point from Khuga Dam to augment supply of drinking water in Churachandpur/Lamka and its surroundings.

Meanwhile, MLA Joykisan drew attention of the House over class boycott stir launched by teachers of Dhanamanjuri University and urged the education minister to look into the issue seriously as it relates directly to the academic career of the students.

Opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram also drew the attention of the House on the same issue.

Replying to the motion (Calling Attention) moved by the two MLAs, education minister Th Basanta-kumar Singh said that steps have been taken up to make Dhanamanjuri University a full-fledged university.

With the establishment of the university on April 6, 2018, a regular Vice Chancellor has been appointed and recruitment of other administrative posts is under process.

In addition to the existing 600 teaching and non-teaching posts of the university, more posts are required and recruitment processes have also been started.

New infrastructures have been developed and most of the works have been completed.

Regarding the recent agitation by the teachers, the minister said that talks have been initiated with the teachers and assured them of fulfilling their demands.

He further informed that classes of the university have been resumed and examinations are on.
