Seminar on 'Environmental Sustainability and Traditional Knowledge Systems' kicks off

Imphal, May 28 2026:
A three-day National Seminar on "Environmental Sustainability and Traditional Knowledge Systems in North-East India: Practices, Challenges and Prospects" was inaugurated today at Khongnangthaba University (KHU), Imphal.
Organised by KHU's Eco-Chapter and Science Club in collaboration with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, the seminar will run from May 28 to 30, 2026 .
Dr T Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, attended as chief guest, while Prof Ng Iboyaima Singh.
Dean, College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, was the guest of honour.
The function was presided over by Dr Aribam Guneshwor Sharma, Member Secretary, Science Club, and Dean and Director, AYUSH, KHU .
The inaugural session featured the welcome address by Prof RK Gambhir, ceremonial lighting of the lamp, and the keynote address by Dr Ngangom Priya Devi, Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science.
As part of the event, the Seminar Abstract Book was also released.
Around 50 research papers will be presented during the three-day seminar, covering climate change, sacred groves, community-based conservation, traditional knowledge and biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, ethno-botanical studies, indigenous resource management, gender participation, handloom, ICT, and sustainable livelihoods.
Dr Atom Sunil Singh, Registrar and Convener, Eco-Chapter, proposed the vote of thanks.
