Imphal, July 27 2016:
At least four students sustained injuries when police fired tear gas shells to disperse student protesters who were blocking Imphal-Moreh road at Singjamei bazar today on the demand for removal of wanted tag on former JCILPS convener Khomdram Ratan and implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
About 21 students of CC Higher Sec School, TG Hr Sec school, Johnstone Hr Sec School, Lamlong Hr Sec School and Royal Academy were staging a road block by joining hands at Singjamei bazar along Imphal-Moreh highway today around 3 pm.
A team of police led by SDPO and OC of Singjamei PS rushed to the spot and asked the students to end their protest.
Despite this, the protest went on for about one hour and slogans demanding the removal of wanted tag on Kh Ratan, implementation of ILPS etc were raised.
Police then opened rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the protesters.
The protesters along with people from the nearby areas retaliated by pelting stones on the police.
In the melee, four students were injured.
The incident also led to the immediate closure of Singjamei bazar.
