Statue of Kargil martyr Nandachand Singha unveiled at Ningthemkhun

Jiribam, February 27 2026: A statue of Kargil martyr Irom Nandachand Singh was unveiled today at N ingthemkhun in Cachar district, Assam, by Kaushik Rai, Minister of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines & Minerals, and Barak Development Department, Government of Assam.

On the occasion, the Minister announced that the bridge .constructed over the Nungphou Turel will henceforth be known as the "Nandachand Singha Bridge", in honour of the fallen soldier.

Notably, Nandachand Singha was bom on February 27, 1977, at Sribar Awang Leikai, Lakhipur in Cachar district.

He is the second son of Irom Ketamani Singha and Benda Devi.

He joined the Artillery Regiment of the Indian Army on February 24, 1996 .

He made the supreme sacrifice on July 2, 1999, fighting for the nation during the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan.

In recognition of his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the "Sena Medal' by the Government of India.

Apart from his distinguished service in the Army, Nandachand Singha was known to be a multitalented personality with a deep interest in literature and culture.

He had written several plays, dramas and leelas.

His leela titled "Lukhrabido Eigisu Imani' was staged at Sribar and later aired at the AIR Silchar.

The unveiling ceremony was also attended by RK Sanahal, chairman of the Martyr Nandachan Singha Statue Construction Committee.
