Imphal, February 26 2026:
A free cancer screening medical camp was inaugurated on Thursday under the "Cancer Mukt Bharat Initiative", targeting the rising cancer cases in Northeast India, particularly Manipur.
The collaborative effort, led by Dev-Desh Pratishthan Mumbai, Saidham Cancer Hospital Rahuri Maharashtra, and National Medicos Organisation (NMO), will conduct screenings at various locations across Manipur.
Dr Vaibhav R Deogirkar, chairman of Dev-Desh Pratishthan, highlighted the need to revamp dietary habits and lifestyles to combat cancer during the launch event.
He urged people to avoid smoked foods, smoke, and certain medicines, noting that lifestyle changes, particularly the consumption of fermented and smoked foods common in Northeast India, may contribute to the disease.
However, he assured that early detection and timely treatment can lead to recovery.

Screenings included ECG, cardio, AYUSH (medicine), homeopathic, dental oral cancer screening, general screening, cervical cancer screening, and breast cancer screening.
