AR leads socially impactful initiatives in Manipur

Tengnoupal/Kamjong, November 25 2024: The Assam Rifles has successfully spearheaded two significant events aimed at promoting environmental conservation and combating drug abuse in the Kamjong and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur.

These initiatives reflect the organization's commitment to fostering a healthier and more responsible society, said a release issued by IGAR (South).

In Kamjong District, a Tree Plantation Drive was held at Sorde Village, addressing critical environmental challenges such as deforestation and illegal timber trade.

Despite the region's rich natural resources, these activities have led to severe environmental degradation, said the IGAR.

IGAR added that the initiative was aimed to educate the local community, particularly school students, on the importance of preserving nature.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from locals, village council representatives, and school children.

A special cleanliness drive was conducted around the village and a total number of 250 saplings of trees were planted along public spaces and the Shangshak-Kasong road, added the IGAR.

Local authorities and villagers expressed their gratitude for this initiative and pledged their support for ongoing conservation efforts, said the IGAR (South).

Simultaneously, in Bongjang Village, Tengnoupal District, Assam Rifles conducted an awareness lecture on drug abuse and its harmful effects attracting over 30 participants, including men, women, and children, highlighting the growing issue of substance abuse in the region, said the IGAR (S) The interactive session addressed the social, psychological, and physical impacts of drug addiction while emphasizing prevention strategies and rehabilitation options.

IGAR continued that these initiatives underscore Assam Rifles' unwavering dedication to tackling pressing social and environmental issues in Manipur by raising awareness and engaging communities in constructive actions and will continue to pave the way for a more responsible and sustainable future.
