From Herbertian to IAS: S Asker Ali shares journey with students

Imphal, September 25 2026: Herbert School had the privilege of welcoming back one of its distinguished alumni, S Asker Ali, IAS, of the 2009 batch, who delivered an inspirational talk at his alma mater today.

Presently serving as Secretary, PWD, Tourism, Health & Industries in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Asker Ali interacted with students and shared his academic journey, professional experiences and challenges as an IAS officer.

The programme commenced with an introduction of the guest in the presence of the Principal and teaching staff, followed by a welcome address by the Academic Coordinator.

Addressing the students, Asker Ali shared valuable insights into public administration and responsibilities of public service.

He also apprised them of the developmental progress of the UT, particularly in healthcare, road connectivity and tourism.

A touching moment came when he fondly recalled his days at Herbert School and expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of Founder and then Principal Dr K Nabachandra Singh, whose guidance played a significant role in shaping his academic journey and inspiring him towards civil services.

Students actively participated and raised queries about his preparation for civil services and life as an IAS officer, to which he responded with warmth.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to Asker Ali for his inspiring interaction.
