KVK Imphal West holds training on scientific makhana cultivation

Imphal, June 25 2026:
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West, in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, organised a one-day training on "Scientific Cultivation of Foxnut (Makhana)" at Uchiwa Mamang Leikai on Thursday.
A Sunita Devi, District Horticulture Officer, Imphal West, attended as chief guest along with KVK scientists Dr Ch Roben Singh and Dr Kangabam Suraj Singh, Assistant Agriculture Officers Maisnam Paras Singh and L Trivankar Sharma, and Technical Assistant Tondon Devi.
In his welcome address, Maisnam Paras stressed makhana's potential for value addition and income generation.
Dr Kangabam Suraj led the technical session, detailing scientific practices and major pests and diseases of makhana (Thangjing) .
Dr Ch Roben explained recommended agronomic practices and crop management for higher yields.
Progressive farmers welcomed the programme, calling it timely and usefill for boosting production and income through improved practices and value-added products.
The training concluded with the distribution of agricultural inputs to participants.
