While revealing that Manipur leads to top position in the world when comes to the use of the varieties of drugs and alcohol, the six day long campaign organized by Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) concluded here on Thursday.
The Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), an organisation based in Manipur campaigning against the use of intoxicants, started the campaign in the form of wall posters, street corner meetings against the use and sell of drugs and alcohols on June 20, joining the world in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
It was being held under the theme of "Do drugs control your life? � Your life, your country, no place for drugs".
Manipur Films Forum members also participated in the campaign.
The campaign had covered several districts and localities of the state.
Addressing the meeting at Leirunkabi Rural Development Club, Imphal West, S Baikul, secretary (CADA) advised that it is not an easy task to completely stop the selling and use of drugs in the state .He stated, "We need people's unanimous voice towards the Government of Manipur to pressurize against the drugs abuse and the illicit trafficking".
Mentioning the improper functioning of the Excise Department, the CADA secretary alleged that the department does not take stringent action against the drug abuse and illicit traffickings.He also alleged that the security personnel behind the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) had threatened the volunteers of CADA while the drives were in progress.
The members of the Manipur Film Forum participated in the campaign.
Informing the mass, Manipuri actress Jolly stated that the youths must not indulge in drugs and alcohol on the mere rejection of their demands by the parents and non fulfillment of their hopes and desires.
They should rather work to achieve their goals with determination.
Mentioning the complications of stopping the drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the state, M.Surajkanta, member of Manipur Film Forum stated that the people of Manipur should understand the negative impact of the drugs and the other intoxicants in the society.
He further informed that the state leads to the top position in the world when comes to the use and selling of drugs.
Keeping in view of the rampant use and selling of drugs and intoxicants in the state, the people should not hesitate in exposing the people indulged in such activities so that they can be sent for counselling, added Surajkanta.
The street corner meeting also used the banner that inscribed as "the week against the using and selling of drugs and alcohols " "Avoid drugs, save the nation" "Let's save our youths from the world of drugs and alcohol".
The male and female actors also distributed the leaflets to the public in this regard.
