Sensitization programme held

Imphal, January 25 2025:
A sensitization cum orientation programme on "Towards Inclusive Legal Services For LGBTIQ plus Communities" was conducted today at the auditorium of Manipur High Court, Imphal.
The programme was jointly organised by the All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA), Empowering Trans Ability (ETA), Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India (SAATHI) and Manipur Judicial Academy.
It was attended by dignitaries, including Manipur Judicial Academy, Director, Kh Nobin; Joint Director, Maibam Manojkumar; Manipur High Court, Registrar General, Ojesh Mutum and SAATHI vice president, Dr L Ramakrishnan.
Speaking on the occasion, SAATHI assistant director Randhoni Lairikyengbam said that transgender and gender nonconforming (GNC) person often face a legal system that does not protect them from discrimination based on their gender identity.
"All transgender people are entitled to the same dignity and rights as anyone else", said Randhoni while adding that the programme was organised to sensitize transgender people about their rights and legal protections.
She also stressed on the need for all the District Level Judicial Officers to have a comprehensive knowledge about the rights and laws regarding transgender and GNC people.
Randhoni also shared that over the last decade, AMANA and ETA with the technical support of SAATHI have taken up various activities/ programmes to support transgender and GNC people in the State.
