Man convicted of raping own child

A 25-year-old father has been convicted for raping his own minor daughter.
Identified as a habitual offender, the father sexually assaulted his own daughter on March 30, 2022 in Imphal West district.
Convicted under Section 6 of POCSO Act, RK Memcha, Judge, Fast Track Special Court Number 1 Manipur has fixed May 27 for sentence hearing.
Notably, the same person was earlier convicted by a Fast Track Court on February 12, 2024 for raping another minor on August 24, 2017 in Imphal East district.
The Judge had sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years.
Lodged in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa, the convict was produced before the Court on May 21 for the announcement of the judgment order.
The case against the convict was registered following a complaint filed by his wife alleging their daughter had been raped by the father on March 30, 2022 .
In the complaint, the wife said the convict sexually assaulted their minor daughter in their bedroom.
Investigation Officer of the case, Inspector Pangambam Khogendro submitted the chargesheet before the Court on April 30, 2022 for trial against the convict under the POCSO Act.
The prosecution, in order to prove the charges against the convict beyond reasonable doubt, produced seven prosecution witnesses and 14 documents as exhibits before the Court.
During the trial of the case, Special Public Prosecutor, A Nilachandra submitted that the complainant is the wife of the convict and the mother of the victim who witnessed the incidents, and her statement has been corroborated by the statement given by the minor victim.
The Court, after hearing the submissions of Prosecutor and the defence counsel and on perusal of materials on record, observed that the prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict has committed sexual assault upon his minor daughter.
The Court also identified the father as a habitual offender and convicted him under Section 6 of POCSO Act.
The Court then fixed May 27 for announcing the quantum of punishment.
The Court also directed the State Government to provide a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the victim.
