Eviction drive begins at Thoubal

Thoubal, February 22 2025: District police and Thoubal Municipal Council have launched a drive to evict encroachers from footpaths' along the Asian Highway-1.The district police personnel led by SP Sarangthem Ibomcha and staff of Thoubal Municipal Council began the drive from Wangmataba area and proceeded towards Thoubal, Bazar area today.

The team dismantled structures, and evicted vendors from the footpaths.

During the drive, SP S Ibomcha appealed to the public and shop-owners to vacate from the footpath and make it accessible to commuters.

He urged vendors not to encroach on the footpath and cause congestion.

He said, encroachment on footpaths forces people to commute on the Highway which in turn increases the risk of fatal accidents occurring.

The district police and Thoubal Municipal Council will continue the drive, he said, urging for public support and cooperation.

In future, the police may take legal action and impose fines on violators/encroachers, he added.

Similar drives were conducted at Lilong Bazar and Yairipok Bazar areas.
