Include Ikop Pat in river basin rejuvenation plan: KKYFDO

Thoubal, August 21 2024: Khangabok Kendra Young Farmers Development Organisation has appealed for inclusion of Ikop Pat in the river basin rejuvenation master plan recently mentioned by Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai.

According to the Minister, the drafting of the master plan will be complete by November, 2024.Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, Dr Kh Akoisana, secretary, KKYFDO said that Ikop Pat is surrounded by the villages of Athokpam, Khangabok, Leishangthem, Uchiwa, Santhel, Wabagai, Tentha and Tekcham-Papal in Thoubal district.

He pointed out that many plant species who release hydrogen peroxide grow across Ikop Pat and contribute greatly to ecosystem imbalance.

Further, he shared that when the Ithai Barrage shutters are closed, the water in Ikop Pat overflows and floods paddyfields, fish farms and villages.

The same situation repeats in cases of heavy rainfall.

Thus, he appealed for inclusion of Ikop Pat in the river basin rejuvenation master plan.
