NEIDP top leaders adopt resolute stand against CAB
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, January 20 2019: Taking a determined stand against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016, leaders of North East Development Party (NEIDP) have categorically said stated that they are ready to sacrifice their lives against the statute.

Asserting that CAB can be challenged legally in the Supreme Court, the leaders also appealed all the political parties of the North East to launch a signature campaign against the Bill asserting that they (NEIDP leaders) will lead the campaign.

With the joining of prominent personalities and political icons including some former legislators in NEIDP, political analysts observed that the party has become a powerful regional force in the North East, particularly Manipur.

"We can fight against CAB legally in the Supreme Court for which we appeal all political parties in the North East to launch a signature campaign," said Ngairangbam Samarjit, who is also the chairman of- Salai Holdings Pvt Ltd, today.

"On behalf of NEIDP and Salai Holdings, I'll lead the campaign and if the need arises, I am also ready to sacrifice my life for the cause of the people of the region against CAB", added Samarjit.

Echoing Samarjit, the party's vice president and former MLA, Sapam Kunjakishore told reporters that he is also ready to sacrifice his life against CAB for saving the identity, culture and socio economy of the North East.

Popularly known as Sapam Keba in the political circle, Kunjakishore also emphasized the need to launch a campaign against CAB in New Delhi.

Strongly condemning the passing of the CAB in the Lok Sabha recently, NEIDP had already stated that the Bill is against the people's will and is a complete threat to the people.

Vice president of the party's central working committee, N Biswajit said that as a regional party of the entire North East, NEIDP has been taking initiatives by way of organising agitation against CAB.

If the CAB is enacted, 'outsiders' from the State will become citizens, Biswajit said adding that the party will support every decisions and steps of the people against the Bill.

Senior leaders of the party including Elangbam Brojendro, during a demonstration against CAB near its Tera bazar head office on January 8, had categorically stated that if actions are not taken up immediately against CAB, the future of the North East, particularly Manipur, will be at stake.
