SAANS Campaign 2025-26 launched

Jointly organised by the Directorate of Health Services and State Health Society, NHM, Manipur, the SAANS (Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully) Campaign2025-26 was officially launched at Heritage Hall, IMA, Lamphel today.
The State-level launching programme was graced by Dr N Hemantakumar Singh, Director, Health Services as the chief guest; Dr A Sylvia, SNO, Child Health, State Health Society, NHM as the functional president and Dr N Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare Services as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Dr N Hemantakumar shared that the SAANS Campaign 2025-26 will continue till February 28, 2026 across all districts of Manipur.
Commenting on the high mortality rate of children under 5 years, he said that 16 out of every 1000 children die due to pneumonia in India.
The SAANS Campaign was launched with the goal of treating this lung infection on time and bringing it under control in children under 5 years to lower the mortality rate.
Highlighting the important role played by SNOs in the SAANS Campaign, he also pointed out the connection between climate change and the acute respiratory infection.
The Health Services Director further acknowledged the contribution of ASHA workers in carrying out such health programmes including Tuberculosis Control Programme (TCP) and Child Health Programme.
Dr N Hemantakumar placed responsibility on parents to understand when their children are suffering from respiratory issues, fever, etc and urged them to bring their kids to the hospital at the right time.
On another note, he advised parents to keep their children's rooms and areas they frequent dry and to ensure timely immunization.
He sought help from mediapersons to spread awareness about pneumonia to people in different parts of Manipur.
