Imphal, May 19 2014 :
Reacting strongly to the outgoing Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio's statement that the defeat of Naga People's Front (NPF) in Outer Manipur's Lok Sabha seat was due to the fielding of BJP candidate Prof Gangmumei and independent candidate Mani Charenamei, the BJP candidate of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Prof Gangmumei Kamei said that the NPF should accept the defeat gracefully rather blaming on others.
Talking to media persons at BJP Manipur Pradesh office here today, Prof Gangmumei said that the wild allegation made by Neiphiu Rio for NPF's defeat in Outer Manipur was most deplorable and contemptuous.
It is widely known that the armed cadres of NSCN (IM) captured more than 120 polling stations on behalf of NPF candidate Soso Lorho in the Naga dominated districts of Manipur.
However, they failed to collect enough votes to ensure the victory of NPF candidate.
Failure of NPF in this election was due to the failure of NSCN (IM) cadres to completely control polling in the constituency.
Rio should not blame him (Gangmumei) nor Mani Charenamei for the defeat of NPF; rather he (Rio) should blame his mentor in the underground set up for their failure to capture enough votes for the party, Prof Gangmumei asserted.
Prof Gangmumei further said that many anti-BJP activities were carried out by armed NSCN (IM) cadres during the election.
Senior BJP leader and former Minister Dr Khasim Ruivah was detained and later put under house-arrest at his Somdal village by the NSCN (IM).
Chief Election Agent of BJP PA Thekho was kidnapped and interrogated by NSCN (IM) cadres at an unknown place besides vandalizing the office of BJP Ukhrul Unit.
All these illegal activities had clearly exposed the nexus between NPF and NSCN (IM).
Rio's statement was just an attempt to hide the real cause of NPF's defeat in this Lok Sabha election.
The people of Manipur have shown their mandate that they do not accept the aim and objective of NPF to destroy the entity of Manipur.
The nefarious role of Neiphiu Rio in the internal politics of Manipur by playing up ethnic Naga card is simply anti-national and communal.
It is quite ironic that a leader who tries to destroy BJP organization in Manipur is lobbying to get a berth in Narendra Modi's cabinet of the BJP-led NDA Government.
NPF is not a pre-poll ally of NDA or BJP.
Such a contemptuous leader should not be given any berth in the BJP-led ministry, Prof Gangmumei enjoined.
Further, Prof Gangmumei congratulated Dr T Meinya and Thangso Baite on their victory in the 16th Lok Sabha election.
