RIMS Medical Society hosts 15th MESOCON 2025

Imphal, April 19 2025: Medical Society of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal organised the 15th annual conference of Medical Society, MESOCON 2025, under the theme of "More Than You Can Imagine: An Anthology of Rare Experiences", at the Jubilee Hall of the Institute on Saturday.

According to a press release by RIMS Media Cell, the conference was formally inaugurated by RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma as the chief guest while MS Prof N Sanjib Singh, dean (Academics) Prof Th Meera, and Medical Society, RIMS chairman Prof Th Sudhiranjan were the guests of honour and president respectively.

Medical Society, RIMS secretary Dr L Jaleshwar Singh and Reception Committee chairperson Prof Gayatri Pukhrambam also attended the event, along with the deputy director (Admin), heads of Departments, faculty members, staff, students and medical professionals.

In his address, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted the recognition of RIMS as the 13th Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases - the first in the Northeast, and called for efforts to meet national standards, establish molecular labs, and implement a hub-and-spoke model for regional care.

While noting that eligible patients, who have been diagnosed with rare disease, could receive up to Rs 50 lakhs for treatment under the same, he also stressed the importance of ethical, high-quality research and urged faculty to avoid superficial or outsourced work.

He commended the organisers, while also expressing hope for fruitful outcomes from the conference.

As part of the inaugural ceremony, the director formally released the conference souvenir and the Journal of Medical Society (JMS), followed by distribution of prizes for the Best Postgraduate Awards and Poster Presentations, ac-knowledging the outstanding academic contributions of young researchers and clinicians.
